On March 28 – 30, 2023, a meeting of the SPO-CRAM project partners was held at the headquarters of the Belgian partner SPAQUE.
During the meeting, partners discussed the following issues:
- historical and contemporary slags of Zn-Pb metallurgy in Silesia,
- analytical procedure for the determination of elements in slags with the use of ICP-MS and ICP-OES after mineralization in acids,
- guidelines for the use of historical research methodology, SMART PHOENIX and MESIS tools in Polish conditions
Moreover, GIG presented the Institute’s activities in the field of circular economy, and SPAQUE presented the SMARTIX tool developed as part of the NWE-REGENERATIS project.
As part of the meeting, the project partners also:
- held a field visit at WP Investment 3 Duferco (La Louvière), where the participants became acquainted with the assumptions for the pilot plant operating as part of the NWE REGENERATIS project; the problems of heap reclamation in Poland and Wallonia were also discussed,
- visited the University of Liège, where University employees presented the possibilities of using geophysical (georesistance) research in degraded areas for the identification of pollutants and the University’s capabilities in the recovery of metals from waste; the Belgian model of cooperation between industry and scientific and technological units was also discussed,
- visited the Centre Terre et Pierre (Turnai), where the participants discussed the experiences and achievements of GIG in the field of sample mineralization methodology in determining the content of germanium as an element on the list of critical raw materials (CRM) for the European Union, visited CTP research laboratories and large-scale R&D laboratories; in addition, the GIG-PIB delegation presented the profile of the Institute’s activities and discussed the projects implemented in recent years at the Environmental Monitoring Department,
- visited the reclaimed areas of Grand Champs and Vieille Montagne.
